    Afaria version 5.4 furthers its leadership position in mobile device management by expanding the breadth of functionality available for managing mobile devices. This new functionality includes: 1. Expanded support for BlackBerry devices: * Distribute, install, track and repair software applications on BlackBerry devices * Create custom systems management tasks and support business processes * Configure and enforce BlackBerry device settings * Automate and script business logic with the new session-based client * Optimize the flow of data with customized scheduling, dynamic bandwidth throttling and checkpoint restart * Protect lost or stolen devices through the ability to lock and/or remove data and applications from devices * Manage all your BlackBerry, Pocket PC, Palm, Symbian, and Java devices from a single console * Manage directly from a Microsoft SMS console through Afaria’s integration with SMS 2003 2. Full management and security support for Windows Mobile 5.0 devices, including new device monitoring capabilities: * Observe and react to changes in the state of a device * Trigger connections, logging or local processes when key characteristics change o Backup key files on a device when the battery level drops below a critical level o Monitor and/or enforce application installation and usage policies o Log when confidential files on mobile devices are written to external cards or sent to other devices o Ensure that vital information is always available to frontline works, and automatically replaced when needed 3. Inventory manager enhancements: * Capture more relevant sets of data, increase flexibility and improve readability with enhanced inventory reports * New differencing scan transmits only inventory data changed since the previous session * Improve detection of changes on Windows PCs * Collect more data about phone-enabled devices * Capture important data about WiFi, Bluetooth and IrDA capabilities on mobile devices 4. Permanent client identifiers: * Generate a permanent client identifier that won’t change—even if the Afaria client is removed and reinstalled * Ensure that users can still uniquely identify their devices after loss of the Afaria client due to power failure, device reset or client reinstallation
