What is The Motley Fool? -- Headquartered in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia, The Motley Fool was founded in 1993 by brothers David and Tom Gardner. Our name derives from Elizabethan drama where only the court Jester (the "Fool") could tell the King the truth without getting his head lopped off. For more than five years, we've been dedicated to educating, amusing, and enriching individuals in search of the truth.

What is the truth? -- The stark truth is that the financial world preys on ignorance and fear. Few schools teach personal finance and investing. True, none of these topics are great mysteries, but, without a proper education, all of them can be intimidating and confusing.
